White
214 Ghost Corner, David Nieuwoudt,
Semillon, Elim, South Africa, 2008 - £65.00
This wine is produced in minute quantities,
his inaugural vintage was met with rave reviews upon release and
immediately sold out upon release. This is the new vintage of
this stunning Semillon. This is 100% Semillon. The wine
has spent a short time in Barrel which has given it an amazing
smokey, Fumé nose. The palate is fresh and zesty with
grapefruit, asparagus and lime with a touch of smokiness on the
finish. This is a fantastic wine only made in the best
years.
248. Sevilen, 900, Fume Blanc, Guney,
Denizli, Turkey, 2009 - £65.00
This is the second vintage of this bone dry,
super-refreshing Sauvignon Blanc grown on the lime stone/clay Guney
Plateau inland from Izmir. The vineyard itself is 900 metres
above sea level. This wine is fantastic on a hot day in the
sun and would be a god send on a hot day in Turkey. This wine
has searing acidity but with quite enough fruit too. This
wine is fermented in 225 litre French Oak barrels and 8 to 10
months on its Sur-lie with its fine sediments. This wine
reminds me of a very high quality new world wine.
No one would guess it’s from Turkey.
Red
The wine: Olpaio, Val di Cornia
Suvereto, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2004 - £89.00
Special Selection, just 3.000 bottles.
Excellent wine made in a Pomerol style. A first quality wine from
the Maremma Coast with plenty of blackcurrents, plums and cedar
wood. Fine tannin, full bodied, rich, stylish and intense with a
long length, elegant and harmonious.
514. Viña Leyda, Pinot Noir, Lot 21,
Leyda Valley, 2008 - £70.00
This delicate Pinot Noir shows intense and intriguing fruity
aromas of strawberry, black cherries, orange peel and herbs
together with a subtle oak complexity. The Lot 21 is the top
Pinot Noir from this wine grower. The wine is aged for ten
months in French oak barrels. In the final two months before
harvest, the vines undergo cluster-thinning two or three times in
order to concentrate flavours and aromas. The grapes are hand
harvested and then, the grapes are separated into individual
parcels. The Lot 21 vineyards are located only 14 km from the
sea shore influenced from the cold Pacific Oceans keeping the
vineyards cool at all times. This wine shows you what great
Chilean Pinot Noirs are all about and a great new world
alternative.
