Exclusively Green is an ongoing commitment
for all properties across the Exclusive Hotels Group. Here are just
some of the initiatives currently in place at Lainston House.
Energy
After considerable investment and research, we completed a trial
at Lainston House in 2008 for a sophisticated boiler management
system. The MK Boiler control system stops the boiler from
running when it is not actually needed.
In a 2 week trail, the system saved 27% energy consumption i.e.
60 hours of boiler burning time. This new technology will help
to reduce the amount of energy needed for heating and hot water
requirements.
- Solar panels have also been installed on the
administration building at Lainston House which runs the power for
the boiler
- All mains electricity and gas purchased is from 100% renewable
supplies
- Energy saving and low voltage light bulbs have been installed
throughout Exclusive Hotels
- Timer switches and movement sensors are used for light switches
wherever appropriate
- All non essential computers are switched off when not in use
instead of being left on standby
Recycling
A large amount of recycling goes on at our hotel. This
includes glass, paper, cardboard and printer cartridges.
- Pennyhill Park Hotel has implemented a "Co-Mingled" recycling
initiative which allows us to recycle all of the above as well as
plastics, polystyrene, tin, Tetra packs and Clingfilm - an
initiative which will be introduced across the Group in coming
months
- One of our other properties is currently trialing a system that
enables the hotel to provide purified drinking water in re-usable
bottles reducing the number of bottles entering the waste stream by
18,000 per year and this is due to be implemented at Lainston very
soon
Recycled and Biodegradable
Lainston House now use a company called 'Yates Disposables' to
provide them with:
- 100% recycled toilet paper
- 100% recycled blue kitchen roll
- 100% bio-degradable tissue paper
Food and
drink
All our Chefs and Kitchen teams are totally committed to
supporting Food Heroes, an Exclusive Hotels initiative to promote
and work with local suppliers, so that they can source the very
best seasonal produce in and around their immediate area and
develop excitingly varied menus.
- We also have our own kitchen garden producing a wide
variety of seasonal and organic vegetables and herbs for our chefs
ensuring fresh ingredients from ground to plate in a matter of
minutes!
- We alaos have areas for composting
- Fairtrade and Rain Forest Alliance certified tea, coffee and a
selection of Fairtrade and Organic wines are available at all the
properties
- We have installed bee hives around our extensive grounds with
the honey being used in the restaurant
- We are also are rearing our own Lainston Pigs on site
Materials and
equipment
All paper and disposable products sourced by the hotels are from
recycled and/or renewable sources including our brochures and
promotional materials.
- All new plastic containers are made from PET plastics where
possible
- Priority is given to 'green suppliers' such as carbon neutral
wine suppliers, stationery providers, etc
- All recent renovation projects at the hotel incorporate new
energy saving technologies such as ground source heat pumps, water
aerators and LED lighting
