Secrets

Lainston House has attracted the likes of Roger Moore, Michael Caine, Jenny Seagrove, Mariah Carey and Sting and more recently nearby residents Madonna and Guy Ritchie.

It has even hosted two US presidents! George Bush Senior regularly enjoys the fabulous fishing and fine dining whilst President Carter stayed to watch one of our outdoor plays on the lawns. In fact, George Bush Senior once famously commented that the Lainston Martini was: “the best martini he’s ever had.”

As seen on TV

It has provided a back drop for many a television series’ including Inspector Wexford, Joy Swift Murder Mystery and the series Gentlemen and Players.

The Cedar Bar has one of the finest collections of Armagnac’s and cognacs outside London, some of which date back to 1811 and priced at £420 per double measure.

The two signature pieces in the Cedar Bar that sit either side of the magnificent fireplace were carved by the eminent Grinling Gibbons. Much of Gibbons’ work survives in isolated country houses such as Lainston, but Hampton Court Palace near London is blessed with an abundance of his fine carvings.

We hate to boast, but...

Lainston’s Kitchen Garden grows 15 different vegetables and 25 varieties of herb as well as numerous varieties of fruit trees including: 3 pear, 2 apricot, 2 nectarine, 2 peach, 1 damson, 1 quince, 1 crab apple, 2 figs, 1 mulberry, 1 gooseberry, 1 blackcurrant, 1 white currant, 2 greengages, 2 plum, 5 loganberry as well as lots of rhubarb and strawberries.

The spectacular tree lined avenue is the longest line of limes in England, with trees dating back as far as 1716.
